Die EU hat mit einem Artikel in ihrem Organisationsreglement ihren Segen ausgesprochen über Konkordate und andere Verträge, welche den Kirchen Privilegien zuschanzen und ihnen einen Sonderstatus bie Konsultationen einräumen. Zwar werden auch  ‘philosophical and non-confessional organisations’ erwähnt, deren Status ist aber in den meisten Staaten schlechter.

Fazit: die EU will die bestehenden nationalen Verflechtungen von Staat und Kirchen nicht infrage stellen.

Article 17  Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union 1. The Union respects and does not prejudice the status under national law of churches and religious associations or communities in the Member States.

2. The Union equally respects the status under national law of philosophical and non-confessional organisations.

3. Recognising their identity and their specific contribution, the Union shall maintain an open, transparent and regular dialogue with these churches and organisations.
